I’ve been keeping fish since I was 12. It’s been my passion for well over 33 years!
But it hasn’t always been a smooth ride. Back in the early 1980s, there was no Google and finding answers to questions I had took a lot of time and effort. So in the beginning, it was mostly trial and error while I read as much as I could on the subject. And it was mostly a lot of error on my part, which meant that fish funerals were a constant part of my life.
But, of course, I learned and pretty soon I was the source of info for my friends who wanted to keep fish and buy fish tanks. I helped them keep their aquariums clean and working properly, while I also took care of my own aquariums. Now I’m a married man, and one of my main tasks is to keep the wife happy by ensuring my aquariums are quiet and clean
I can’t really complain. Having aquariums in my house gives it a more peaceful ambience, and the fish are quite fascinating to watch. It soothes me and excites me at the same time, and that’s a proper reaction to any hobby you’re passionate about.
And since my passion for keeping fish inside aquarium knows no bounds, I’m also duty bound to help others. Having a website helps a lot, because I keep getting the same questions from friends, family and even strangers I meet in petshops.
And that’s what this website is actually all about. It’s dedicated to helping other people keep a healthy and peaceful aquarium. I’ve collected the most common questions I’ve been asked through the years (and the ones I’ve asked myself) and provided the definitive answers for each one of them. That way, I can just tell everyone to visit my site when they have a question. I’ve also featured articles on various topics, guides on how to do certain tasks, as well as reviews for aquariums and accessories.

I am a very passionate fishkeeper, with new budding interests in different aspects of the hobby all the time. No matter what new project I'm starting on, I always have one main goal, to help those who require it.
There was once a stage that I was the one that needed help, granted I was around 6 years old, but there was a local pet shop near where my dad lived in Manchester. He took me there to replace a Blackmoor that had died and I asked the shop owner a simple question ‘how do you look after fish?’.
I'm not going to lie, I have completely forgotten what the shop owner said, but the way he spoke to me was unforgettable, he didn't speak to me like any small child and just palm me off because I wasn't spending money (something I see all too often in stores lately) he spoke to me with a genuine interest in a way which inspired a member of the next generation. This is something that has stood with me for years later and that I'm trying to recreate.
I now work in a pet shop in Manchester City Centre, I am the proud fish nerd. I also write articles and hold a few OATA qualifications.
I am grateful for any of those that take the time to read my articles or even this short bio. Please leave any feedback you might have and I'll try to respond to every query.

Lindsay Smith is a 22 year old freshwater fish enthusiast and established freelance writer. Born and raised in the Florida Panhandle, she gained her love for fish at a young age.
With an admiral respect for Mother Nature and the animals that inhabit her, Lindsay believes that one of the most important parts of pet ownership is putting the needs of the animal first.
The environment a pet is in truly makes the difference between surviving and thriving.
Lindsay gained most of her fishkeeping knowledge through trial and error. Not impressed with the fish care advice she was getting from others, she began doing her own research. She dug through every forum and website she could find, and followed every quality fish blog there was. The more she learned, the more she enjoyed the hobby. Now friends and family seek her for any and all fish advice, as do the followers from her own fishkeeping (tumblr) blog! Her biggest pride is her 3 freshwater aquariums and the healthy fish, invertebrates, and plants that call them home.

Howdy! My name is Veronica and I started keeping fish my freshman year of college. I’ll be honest with y’all, it was a rough start and I made plenty of rookie mistakes.
After a few failed tanks, though, I became totally dedicated to figuring out what I had done wrong and learning as much as possible about aquatic husbandry and this wonderful hobby.
Since then, I’ve successfully kept quite a few fish and invertebrate species. Even now, I’m constantly learning, and I don’t ever plan to stop. I’m excited to share my knowledge with and continue to learn from all the other keepers in this community!
