Erica Ash
I’ve been keeping fish since I was 12. It’s been my passion for well over 20 years!
Erica is a passionate aquarist, a seasoned fish biologist, and the proud creator of this website, dedicated to the wonderful world of fish-keeping, aquariums, and aquascaping. Holding a Bachelor's degree in Fish Biology, Erica brings a wealth of scientific knowledge to the hobby, providing readers with a unique blend of technical expertise and personal experience.
Erica's love for aquatic life was ignited at a young age, mesmerized by the harmony, colors, and intricacies of underwater ecosystems. This childhood fascination turned into a lifelong passion, leading Erica to pursue an academic path in Fish Biology. This formal education added depth to Erica's understanding of aquatic life, covering everything from the behavior and physiology of fish to the delicate balance of aquatic ecosystems.
However, it is not just the scientific aspects of aquatic life that captivates Erica, but also the creative, therapeutic, and immersive nature of the hobby. Erica firmly believes in the emotional benefits that come with creating and maintaining an aquarium – the tranquility it can bring to a space, the satisfaction derived from cultivating a thriving ecosystem, and the constant opportunities for learning and growth.
Through this website, Erica aims to share the joy of fish-keeping and aquascaping with others, providing guidance for beginners and a platform for more seasoned aquarists to exchange ideas and experiences. Whether you're seeking advice on setting up your first tank, tips on maintaining water quality, or inspiration for your next aquascaping project, you're in the right place with Erica at the helm.
When not immersed in writing, researching, or maintaining their own collection of aquaria, Erica enjoys exploring nature, traveling the world or riding her horse.

I am a very passionate fishkeeper, with new budding interests in different aspects of the hobby all the time. No matter what new project I'm starting on, I always have one main goal, to help those who require it.
There was once a stage that I was the one that needed help, granted I was around 6 years old, but there was a local pet shop near where my dad lived in Manchester. He took me there to replace a Blackmoor that had died and I asked the shop owner a simple question ‘how do you look after fish?’.
I'm not going to lie, I have completely forgotten what the shop owner said, but the way he spoke to me was unforgettable, he didn't speak to me like any small child and just palm me off because I wasn't spending money (something I see all too often in stores lately) he spoke to me with a genuine interest in a way which inspired a member of the next generation. This is something that has stood with me for years later and that I'm trying to recreate.
I now work in a pet shop in Manchester City Centre, I am the proud fish nerd. I also write articles and hold a few OATA qualifications.
I am grateful for any of those that take the time to read my articles or even this short bio. Please leave any feedback you might have and I'll try to respond to every query.

Lindsay Smith
Lindsay Smith is a 22 year old freshwater fish enthusiast and established freelance writer. Born and raised in the Florida Panhandle, she gained her love for fish at a young age.
With an admiral respect for Mother Nature and the animals that inhabit her, Lindsay believes that one of the most important parts of pet ownership is putting the needs of the animal first.
The environment a pet is in truly makes the difference between surviving and thriving.
Lindsay gained most of her fishkeeping knowledge through trial and error. Not impressed with the fish care advice she was getting from others, she began doing her own research. She dug through every forum and website she could find, and followed every quality fish blog there was. The more she learned, the more she enjoyed the hobby. Now friends and family seek her for any and all fish advice, as do the followers from her own fishkeeping (tumblr) blog! Her biggest pride is her 3 freshwater aquariums and the healthy fish, invertebrates, and plants that call them home.

Howdy! My name is Veronica and I started keeping fish my freshman year of college. I’ll be honest with y’all, it was a rough start and I made plenty of rookie mistakes.
After a few failed tanks, though, I became totally dedicated to figuring out what I had done wrong and learning as much as possible about aquatic husbandry and this wonderful hobby.
Since then, I’ve successfully kept quite a few fish and invertebrate species. Even now, I’m constantly learning, and I don’t ever plan to stop. I’m excited to share my knowledge with and continue to learn from all the other keepers in this community!
